What to expect

Explore one of the most famous UNESCO'S world heritage sites with a day tour from Athens to magical Delphi. On the way, you will have a short stop at Thebes and Levadia before arriving in Delphi around noon. Famous for its theatre, Temple of Apollo and ancient ruins, Delphi was considered the centre of the earth and the universe and played a central role in the classical Greek world. Pass by Castalia Spring, visit the archaeological site, the temple of Apollo, Athenian treasure and the museum of Delphi with its spectacular finds, including the unique bronze Charioteer, the Naxian Sphinx and the statue of Antinoos. After a lunch break, visit Athena Pronaia Sanctuary, the most photographed spot in Delphi. Finally, you will have a short photo stop at Arachova before returning to Athens.

Things to look out for

Delphi is the second-most important archaeological site in Greece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sanctuary of Delphi, set within a most spectacular landscape, was for many centuries the most trusted oracle in the ancient world from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to wars. To the northwest of the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia lay the gymnasium, a place that was used for exercise and learning, the palaestra and the baths. The central, most important part of the site is the sanctuary of Apollo. The stadium of Delphi is one of the best-preserved monuments of its kind. It is situated in the highest part of the ancient city. The Museum of Delphi also has some amazing findings from the area, the most famous being the Omphalos, the statue "The Charioteer" and the two sculptures of Cleobis and Biton.

Helpful Tips

Expect mostly warm weather in Greece during the day and cooler at night. For day trips, comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, hat and loose fitted clothing are strongly recommended. The site of Delphi is perched on the side of a hill. All visitors are rewarded with a beautiful view over the site and the valley beyond.
